European Cycling Challenge 2017

By ACarruthers 05 May 2017

Ride your bike to win prizes!

Do you cycle? Then, why not join other residents in Glasgow by taking part in the 2017 European Cycling Challenge!

What's it all about?

The European Cycling Challenge – ECC2017 is an urban cyclists’ team competition. It takes place from 1 to 31 May 2017.

It is a challenge among European cities: the City that “rides” the longest total distance wins!

The challenge is open to all people living in participating cities, or travelling to/from/across those cities for work, study or other reasons.

All journeys made by bicycle instead of other means of transportation (such as car, motorcycle or any engine powered vehicles) are accepted. For instance: journeys to and from workplace, school, to shopping, to go to the cinema, etc… are valid journeys.

Entry is free!

How to Join

To join ECC2017, download the free Naviki app on your smartphone and Register then go to Settings >Contests> ECC2017 > click on "I'm Participating" and choose "Glasgow City Region" > My Teams > School > University of Glasgow.

Once you've joined the team, track all your journeys by bicycle and your distance cycled will contribute to the total mileage of your team.

This year, Glasgow City Region includes most of the Clyde Valley area meaning most of your journeys will count towards Glasgow's total.

Hopefully, we can make Glasgow City Region the top in Europe.

What are the prizes?

There are also over 120 prizes from leading cycle equipment manufacturers and weekly prize draws for all that take part (all those that submit routes, minimum of 10km per week).

The route information that the challenge provide also helps promote and develop cycle infrastructure more effectively.

Show your support for cycling, take the challenge and help improve cycling for everyone.

As Freddie Mercury once said - "Get on your bike and ride"
