How close is the Hall to the University?

Winton Drive is approx. 20 mins walk from the main University campus and a 10 mins bus ride from the city centre. 

What is the emergency contact number?

The office telephone number is (0141) 339 3273.

Is there anyone available out of office hours?

Out of office hours there is always a Senior Resident available to help with any problems.

Are there medical facilities near the Hall?

There are several doctors' surgeries nearby; we will supply further information on your arrival in our accommodation.

What am I responsible for cleaning?

You are responsible for your own room and you are also expected to contribute to the cleaning of the kitchen and shower areas.

Does the residence have student cooking facilities?

Yes, the flat has a self contained kitchen for the use of the residents within the flat. The kitchen contains a fridge-freezer, a cooker (with hob, grill, and oven), a microwave, a toaster, and a kettle.

Are cooking utensils, crockery supplied?

No, you must bring your own.

How can I recycle my waste?

Recycle bins are located throughout the residences for paper, plastic, and tin. Glass recycling is located between Blocks 8 and 12 and at the Central Services Building. There are also two charity clothing recycling bins on site, located at the Central Services Building and at Block 8.

Can I bring my bike?

Yes. Covered, lockable bike stores are provided. Simply register your bicycle at Reception on arrival.

You are responsible for making sure that your bicycle is adequately insured and secured. You can insure your bike as part of your Block Halls policy by going to http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/accommodation/parents/fees/insurance/

Is there a car park attached to the Hall?

Yes, there is a car park on site which is free of charge.

Is there internet/ WiFi in the room?

Yes, a data point is provided in every room. Wi-Fi routers are supplied in every room and Wi-Fi is also available in the CSB lounge area.

Can I bring my own TV?

Yes, but it must be fitted with a correctly rated fuse, correctly wired plug and a cable in good order. Students must obtain their own TV license http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk for more details

What is the surrounding area like?

The Residences are just over a mile from most of the lecture theatres and University departments. Students usually walk to their lectures. A 10 mins walk will get you Byres Road where most things can be bought.

Byres Road which offers shops, restaurants, banks, post-office, lots of pubs and a cinema is nearby. A quick tube ride from Byres Road will get you into the city centre.

Do I need to take everything out of my room at Christmas and Easter Holidays?

No. Your contract covers this period to allow continuous residency. 

Can my friends stay overnight?

Yes. They must be registered at the Office and can stay for a maximum of 3 nights with one guest per flat at any one time. A minimum 24 hours notice is required. You will need to ask permission from your flatmates first before a guest is allowed to stay. 

What happens if I lose my keys?

You must let staff at Queen Margaret Residences Office know. Try to avoid carrying your keys with anything that would identify your address. A charge will be made for the replacement set.

What happens to my mail/parcel delivery?

Mail is delivered directly to your flat. When you arrive, let your friends, family, bank etc. your full, correct postal address.

Anything else that would be useful for me to bring?

Warm clothing for the winter months.
