How close is the Hall to the University?

Lister House is approx 20 mins walk to the main campus, a 40 mins walk to St Andrew’s Building, 45 mins walk to Yorkhill campus, a 30 mins walk to the Vet School and a 10 mins walk to Gartnavel Hospital.

Is there a bus that goes to the University from the Hall?

There are bus links to across Glasgow from the bus stop on Gt Western Road or Cleveden Road.

Is there anyone available out of office hours?

There is cover by a duty senior resident from 6 pm to 8 am weekdays and from 6pm on Friday to 8am on the Monday morning. Outside these hours residents have access to help from University of Glasgow security.

Are there medical facilities near the Hall?

A medical practice, Barclay Medical Practice, is located on The Fraser Building on main campus and there are several doctors' surgeries near Lister House.

Does the residence have student cooking facilities?

A fridge freezer, oven, hob, kettle and toaster are provided in the kitchen.

Are cooking utensils, crockery supplied?

Residents in SINGLE ROOMS will need to provide their own towels, crockery, cooking utensils, saucepans, etc.
Residents in STUDIOS AND FLATS have basic crockery etc provided in their kitchen but will need to bring towels.

How can I recycle my waste?

In our east carpark we have a glass recycling bin and a paper/plastic bottle/can recycling bins. These are located beside our general refuse bins. 

Can I bring my bike?

There is a garage for bikes; a key is available on request from the office. Bikes are not permitted inside the building.

You are responsible for making sure that your bike is adequately insured and secured. You can insure your bike as part of your Block Halls policy by going to

Is there a car park attached to the Hall?

Yes, we have two car parks. Please provide the office with your car registration details.

Is there internet/ WiFi in the room?

To use the internet you will need to bring a RJ45 cable.

Can I bring my own TV?

Yes, but it must be fitted with a correctly rated fuse, correctly wired plug and a cable in good order. Students must obtain their own TV license http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk for more details

What is the surrounding area like?

Lister House is located in a residential area near the Botanic Gardens. It is situated beside Winton Flats and Queen Margaret Residence.

Convenience stores are located within a short walking distance of Lister House on Cleveden Road, Kelvindale Road (incl.a post office) and at the junction of Gt. Western Road and Kirklee Road.

Can my friends stay overnight?



Unfortunately, due to the current Covid-19 outbreak we have been forced to suspend the overnight guest option in our residences. This will kept under review and will be reintroduced as soon as it is safe to do so.

What happens if I lose my keys?

Replacement key(s) can be issued via the office. Current charges are from£25 per key. Please take great care not to label your key or keep it with your address details.

What happens to my mail/parcel delivery?

Each room/flat has a small mail box located at the bottom of the staircase. Mail is distributed to this box by hall staff or senior residents. If an item of mail is too large for the mailbox or if it requires a signature then it will be kept in the office and a note will be left for you.

Please note the office is only open part time, we cannot guarantee the office is open at the time of your delivery. Please use a drop off address near campus for your delivery. 

Anything else that would be useful for me to bring?

Warm clothing for the winter months.
